January 2014

Dear Friends of Bacon Memorial Library,

Many wonderful things have happened at the Bacon Memorial District Library this past year. And we're proud of the role that the "Friends of Bacon" played in the almost 22 years since our founding. It's Membership renewal time, and we again invite our many friends to continue their support of the Friends of Bacon Memorial District Library.

This past year was a memorable one for the Ford-Bacon Home and the Library – still the most prestigious historic residence and the finest Library Downriver. The recently installed elevator has made the library's extensive historical records, book and video collections, and computer services more accessible and easier to use for our many patrons.

During 2013, our "Friends of Bacon" has provided countless hours of volunteer service. Funded our Summer Reading program, and 3 children and adult programs, purchased curtains for the Parlor in the Bacon Home, a revolving Paperback Rack, and a Silhouette Electronic Cutting Machine (to enhance displays). We have added funds towards the Electronic Sign project for the Library. The Outdoor Electronic Sign is a major project of the Friends, and we welcome donations that can move up the date when the new sign can be a reality.

The "Friends" have also participated in some fund raisers that proved fun and productive—Wendy's and our Mystery Night. We thank all who helped make these events successful. Our "Take Me Home Program" distributed 768 books to nearby offices and hospitals. The Friends Used Book Sales Room is going strong, and we truly appreciate the donations of books from patrons and friends of Bacon Library.

We strive to make the Bacon Memorial District Library the finest Resource-Center in Downriver. The "Friends of Bacon" have many interesting plans for 2014. We sincerely extend the invitation to you to be a part of those plans. If you want an easy New Year's Resolution to keep, why not make it the year YOU become a "Friend of Bacon Memorial District Library"? Join us with a Membership, and help us make 2014 another great year for our District Library.
